As much as I love McEwan's work, his short stories are just not my cup of tea. Too much weird sex stuff, to little insight into the characters' minds, too few of the plot twists I have come to love about McEwan's novels...

McEwan aims for the sacred and the stunted in this kit bag of the abnormal. Half of the stories were wonderful and the others felt plastic and abortive.

Another step on the development of Ian McEwan. Darker, more challenging, nastier, better, storytelling. The "difficult" second book was a progression. His writing is never less than compulsive and intriguing, the short story format suits his precision and his precision suits the format.

I like some of his novels, despite some cheap POV tricks, but this collection is just navel gazing misogynistic self indulgent and ultimately boring stories.

Some authors do not have the short story gift, and also…gross.

Did not enjoy it at all. Couldn’t get into the stories.

Glimmers of his usual greatness, but not McEwan's greatest work as a whole. Enjoyable enough to read, but ore needed at times
