I loved everything about this book. The new characters we got introduced too, the way our existing characters have all seemed to grow a bit and how they handle situations. Even the betrayal. I genuinely cannot wait to see how Aru’s actions play out in April.
So, let’s talk the new characters. In this installation, we get the last two Pandava sisters- ten year old twins Sheela and Nikita. What I liked about them is how, even at a young age, they know they have powers, the know how to use them and they know who they can and can’t trust. It truly broke my heart reading their nightmare scene, but I loved the way they trusted Aru, Mini and Brynne in the end. I’m super interested in learning more about them and seeing why they have powers that the others just don’t. And then there’s Rudy. One of my favourite things is having a character not from our world and seeing their excitement about ordinary things and he didn’t disappoint on that. I also loved they vulnerability that we saw from him- from his own fears about his family to his colour blindness (especially that, it’s not always in books and I do appreciate seeing it).
Then there’s our existing characters. I KNEW they were gonna be betrayed by Boo but it honestly broke me all the same. And now Aru has to decide what to tell her sisters about him and... gah. I absolutely hate that for her. I’m very interested to see where this other sister of hers leads them... The other characters, including Aru, have all grown up a little and it’s very fascinating to watch them become more of a family and I think I know what was meant about Aiden liking one more than the rest.
Honestly. I just really enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected.

I’ve enjoyed the previous Aru Shah books a lot and this one was fun too! All of these books are really charming and easy to love. I listen to them all on audio and the narrator is great.
The friendships are sooo strong in the series and it’s great to see the found family aspect of the Potatoes (their group name)

Another great hit from this author! I love these books so much- they remind me of the Harry Potter series but with Hindu mythology. This one explored more heartbreak but there was still a ton of adventure and sharp wit!

A good addition to the series. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

I was realizing today how radical and wonderful it is that Aiden is called "Ammamma" and "Wifey" and everyone, Aiden included, accepts these feminine terms as terms of endearment and not ridicule. Language matters, and I am so glad Chokshi is pushing back against the negative connotations of using feminine terms to refer to a masculine person.

I love this series. Omg what was that ending are you getting tips from Riordan about cliffhangers?! Your chapter titles are hilarious and so is Aru. I can't wait to read the next one.

This series is the best thing to happen to mid-grade novels since Lloyd Alexander.
