I stumbled on Tielle St. Clare's Dragon's Kiss this week as a free Kindle download (it may still be) that someone mentioned on Twitter and because it was the first book in the erotica fantasy series, I grabbed a copy to see if I'd be interested in reading more. There are some things I didn't like about pacing that I still need to figure out. I felt like the story had potential but the pacing held it back at the beginning. And when it finally picked up, the pacing hurtled off a cliff and then seemed sort of anticlimactic for me. I'd class this book as okay; likable enough for its purposes but probably not my thing.

It would have been good but it was an over-load with the sex ... it was like a porno book without pictures. great writing but not my style ... theres just nothing to it

EDIT

I decided the other day to retry this book, why you might ask?
Because it came up as a book I might enjoy and when I looked at it I had realized I already tried to read it once.
The second time was alot better, maybe I have grown up or maybe finishing the book helped but either way the story was fabulous. Still lots of sex but now alot of it made sence, I mean hes a dragon! lol.

(Rating changed from 1-star to 4-stars)

It was fairly repetitive for the 🌶 and there was a lot of it. The book felt like a lot was going on, but moving very slowly with little actual conflict until the very end of the book. When we finally meet other characters and true conflict, the pacing of the writing became better.

I think I originally read this series in 2013, maybe? But I had just discovered Ellora's Cave and bought up so many books by Tielle St. Clare. I liked the naughtiness of her taking advantage of her patient. Sure he's super strong and determined to have his way with her but if she truly wanted to resist it wouldn't have happened. Also her husband was jerkface.

This was an unexpected pleasure because St. Clare takes the typical shifter story and turns it on its head. Most shifter books make the transformation from human to shifter happen pretty quickly. But that's not the case in Dragon's Kiss. Instead, the transformation is the slow crux of the plot, and I found that viewpoint fascinating.

Dragon's Kiss focuses on a hero, Kei, who's been bitten by a dragon--and that means he'll change into one. He's sent to Lorran, who lost her husband to dragon transformation years ago and who has studied dragons ever since, to see if there's any help she can offer. And there really isn't any way to stop the dragon from taking over, until Kei's dragon nature starts taking a strong interest in Lorran.

I loved Lorran and Kei's intense pull toward one another--this book is chock-full of sensual scenes--as they confront Kei's inevitable fate. And yet that pull is what might offer Kei a chance at a different life than as a lonely and desperate dragon. Seeing these two realize that they've discovered something special made this a treat to read. And seeing something new in the typical shifter-romance story was something special for me!

This book, while an erotic read, was also an interesting one. It definitely had a fantasy genre feel, reminding me of years gone by where I would read that genre a lot more than I do now. There wasn't much in the way of world building in this book, but the writing made it largely unnecessary. While there was a copious amount of sex scenes in this book, it was used as a means to build upon the plot, which was engaging and entertaining. Kei and Lorran were a wonderful couple, each strong in their own rights and complimenting the other well. It was a very refreshing read! I will definitely put it on my keeper shelf and keep my eye out for deals on the others in the series!

So Lorran is the resident dragon expert, shunned by the village she lives in for protecting the beasts which indiscriminately go around killing people.

Kai is the king who has been bitten by a dragon and will soon succumb to the beast growing inside him.

Lorran realises that the only way to prevent the beast from taking over is remain in close physical contact with him (to screw him senseless).

What can I say? It was erotic romance.

Not a huge plot
Not huge character definition

A lot of sex

I think if you find that gets old soon then drop this book from your bookshelf. If you want more actual erotica in your sex scenes then remove this from your mustreads.

Why did I give it 5 stars?

It was easy. It was a simple fairy tale smothered in smut sauce. But it was simple smut. Nothing too complex or challenging with a nice soppy love story thrown in. I love a dragon. I love low angst. I love a dream sex sequence. An inner battle. An irresistible heroine. A possessive animal that growls ‘mine’ all the time and sex 5 times in one evening.
