This is less of a thriller and more of a mystery
This book reminded me of a few other books that I have read, one that comes to mind is The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald.
The Accident is about a woman named Sue whose daughter, Charlotte, is in a coma after trying to commit suicide by stepping in front of a bus. After reading Charlotte's diary, Sue is convinced that Charlotte had a secret that led her to try and take her own life, and Sue is determined fo figure out what that secret was.
I don't often like these kinds of books, I consider them almost 'civilian procedurals', where the protagonist is trying to uncover something and goes and talks to different people to try and figure out what happened. I usually find these stories a little far-fetched, but C.L Taylor made it work. I bought into Sue's desperation and determination to find out what has happened.
The book is told in two timelines in alternating chapters. Diaries entries from the early 90s, where we learn about Sue's unhealthy relationship with James, and the present day when Sue is trying to uncover what has happened to her daughter. I enjoyed both storyline lines and they were weaved together very well, slowly feeding you information.
The 'mystery' is somewhat predictable, but I didn't mind that. For me, this story was about the character and I was invested in them.
Another great C.L Taylor novel!

I couldn't put this down, I read it in three small sittings.
It was really good.
I would like to put some trigger warnings on it for rape and abusive relationships though.

I really liked the start of this story, but it got a little towards the end for me and the ending was left open, which is not something that I enjoy. Not my favourite CL Taylor book.

Sue was quite a likeable character at the beginning but as I read on she became this mother who was obsessive over her daughter's coma.
This book I grew to hate the more I read so I didn't really vibe with this

I struggled to rate this one. I’m going to give it a 3.5⭐️. I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and there wasn’t loads of needless filler. The backstory of Sue and her abusive ex was something that people suffer in silence for and it was written well and provided a reason for the ending. I was a bit frustrated that her family put issues down to mental health which I kind of understand as she didn’t share everything and had had a breakdown but her husband knew her past and didn’t listen to her. I think it was a great book and like this author. I will read by C L Taylor.

I'm a fan of C.L. Taylor, her reads always end up making me feel a little anxious and claustrophobic but in a good thriller way. I wanted to give it a 4 because I was super engrossed and really felt for Sue the main protagonist.. it's just the ending just fell flat and felt rushed. It had so much more potential.
