A variation of the classic "The Princess and the Pea," The Poodle and the Pea's title piqued my interest because of the cute title. Well, that and the fact that we own a beloved poodle. The story, however, didn't live up to the title. Lacking the finesse of a stylistic writer, this simplistic story fell short.

Thanks to Netgalley.com for allowing me early access to this book.
Very cute book, and not just because I'm partial to poodles! The illustrations are charming and the story is simple and well-told. I liked the final page for grown-ups which explains the history of the original Hans Christen Anderson story.

Rating: 2 birch leaves out of 5
Recommends: Children 2 to 3
I really don't understand why adding animals to a fairytale retelling makes it more approachable for children. you can do retelling for children with people and make the story come out better. Children interject themselves into the story when there are people. I will give credit to The Princess and the Pea story across just not in the most effective way.

The best thing about this book is the cover illustration. The interior illustrations are alright, but not as strong as the cover. As for the story, it’s oversimplified. It lacks depth, heart and the chutzpah of the classic story.
