I hurt inside. I did not think a picture book could make me mourn a duck, but this one certainly did. What a sweet, melancholy little story.

oh well, I almost cried now. I think shouldn’t have read this just a week after my little angel and the gentlest soul, fox (dog), died.
I loved this lovely story, I don’t ever read children books but for some reason I picked this one, and I loved it.

Duck notices Death close to her. He says that he is there "just in case". They hang out all summer at the pond and climbing trees then one day duck feels cold. Death and Duck lay down together but Duck stops breathing. Death carries the body to the great river and sends him on his way. Straightforward and lovely.

A different (yet very child friendly) perspective on death.
