I love the way Dickens writes. He can do no wrong. A great book for the last night of the year!

Reading Dickens Christmas Books in publication order. The Chimes is better classified a New Year’s book. Will provide a ranking of the books as my reading progresses. So far…
1. A Christmas Carol
2. The Chimes

Yikes, I really didn't like this. In many ways it is a retread of A Christmas Carol, but with slow-pacing and dull characters. I was very disppointed.

I love classic literature but there is a reason that this is a lesser known novel of his. Massive snooze-fest.

Felt like he was trying to replicate the success of A Christmas Carol a little too closely, so it definitely felt like a retread. At the same time it also felt overstuffed and convoluted for a short novella.

A beautiful book with trials and love. Another stunning work by Charles Dickens.

3.5 stars. Not quite as inspired as A Christmas Carol, but in the same vein.
