This novel got me back into reading! I am very picky when it comes to books and so when I finished this in less than two days, I was pleasantly surprised. I really love the dialogue in this novel and as a reader, dialogue is my favorite part. I also like the writing style as well. If you like pretentious writing, I think you’d like the author’s writing style; There are a lot of tab-worthy quotes.
So, the reason I only rated this novel four stars is because there is one scene that I did not like and felt it misrepresented the character or was just out of character.
The scene I did not like is when the [Classmate Who Knows My Secret] pinned Sukura down. I didn’t like how Sukura acted or how [Classmate Who Knows My Secret] responded. I just felt like he wouldn’t. I understood the explanation but still it did not makes sense looking at his self-deprecating persona. Like, in no instance would he accidentally hurt Sukura, especially not due to his anger. I feel like there was a better way to illustrate how the line about their relationship had been crossed instead of him letting his anger get the better of him. It just felt rushed. For example, I feel like it was just verbalized, it still would have had a similar effect. This happens in chapter five btw.
As much as I love the dialogue and the prestigious writing style, my favorite part of this novel is the foreshadowing. The foreshadowing was brilliant! I never saw it coming.
