Beautiful, informative historical fiction

A beautiful story about a Jewish family living in France during WWII. I learned things about the French Jews’ experiences prior and after the war that I hadn’t learned before.

The Post Card by Anne Berest is a very good book. The reason I enjoyed it is that the author traced her own family. Her mother and her researched the deaths of her mother's grandparents and aunt and uncle during the Holocaust and also the survival of her own mother. Many questions I have had about the Vichy regime were answered from her account.
Having traveled through Provence my self I can understand that part of the story. As well I have experienced the trauma in my own family of what happens to a family who does not look at their past.
Anne Berest has courage, and so does her mother.
The book has a very interesting chronology, a different type of structure which is unusual. Because the topic is so traumatic, and the violence so painful, Berest has done something rather marvelous. Finishing the book I felt that her work, her research, telling it plainly yet with her own style and curiosity, because the book would not exist without curiosity highlighted such a wonderful and sometimes rare quality on some areas of the planet.

Gripping tale of a Jewish family in France and what happened to them during WWII and the holocaust. As often as you read stories of the Holocaust, they continue to grab me and make me so broken hearted with what man can do to his fellow man. Well written book of a family's loss of everything during the war, including their lives. Worth a read.

This was an absolute page turner! I couldn’t put it down. The topic couldn’t be more timely and so important. I feel like we are heading down some familiar paths. This is historical ‘fiction’ at its best: when you feel what it was like to live during those times and learn new things about that historical period as well.
