I’m not sure if this book is not for me or if it was just overall bad. There was barely a plot line and the characters had almost no development. This is dark spice not romance. There should probably be more trigger warnings as well…. Will not be continuing the series.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as part of the @lovebookstours book tour.
I really found myself sucked into this book, but I’m somewhat on the fence about it- mainly because of Black. I’m going to keep it spoiler free here.
The world building was great for me, learning about the packs and the pack hierarchy. The dominant and submissive roles are well lined out as far as the members of the wolf pack are concerned. The writing is on point with a ton of details without being overboard.
Our main character, Elena is an incredibly rare kind wolf: an omega. The Omegas are irresistible to Alpha wolves and are highly coveted for mating and satisfaction purposes. But they only want the omega because she’s an omega, not because of who she is. Even if they’re already mated, they don’t care, they want the omega. Elena is mostly pretty independent and I do like her as a character throughout the book. Her wolf comes late only to find out she’s the omega and her world comes crashing down.
Black, though, he’s the big bad alpha of the Lobo pack. He’s in his 40s and prefers women in their 20s (not gonna lie, gives me creeper vibes). He’s sexy, definitely. But to me, he’s arrogant and a complete hypocrite. He doesn’t want a mate who thinks they’re right when they’re not and can’t admit they may be wrong - but he literally does that exact thing the entire first half of the book. I really hope we get more on him because as of right now, I’m rooting for Jonah instead of Black.
Jonah is the cute quirky Beta that was friends-with-benefits with Elena up until she turned for the first time. He always wanted more from their relationship but didn’t want to push Elena if she wasn’t ready. I definitely need more of him.
I’m excited to read the next book and see what happens after that cliff hanger ending.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. There were just a few minor annoyances preventing me from giving it 5 stars. First, this book only covered about 24-36 hours. I just would have enjoyed more time with Elena getting to know her without everything that happened. Second, I don’t love Black. His inner thoughts and some actions show he doesn’t really care about or respect Elena-just what she is. I’m hoping this will change-good news is there’s plenty of room for character development as this goes on and so far I am a big fan of Jonah.

Not my kind of story telling - way too close to pwp. Ehhh. I was interested enough to keep reading but I DNF'd the second book.

Elena always thought that she was an alpha wolf. As it it turns out, she what she really is, is something rare and what all alphas want, an omega. Black, the alpha of her pack finds her and is determined to get what he wants, to make her his.
I low-key love reading about primal/caveman alphas. This one totally had that. Elena was such a headstrong, tough character. I did kind of hope she would have fought Black more though. But, it didn't take away my enjoyment from the book. OMG, I felt so much for Jonah. I really liked him. The story was a fun journey. That ending though, I definitely have to see what's next!!

This fell a bit short of the mark for me - I saw the trigger warning for dubious consent, but to be honest I felt like it was no consent, and that really put me off Black and the sex scenes. I also felt that Black was a detestable character and that none of the characters were well developed.
I felt annoyed with the characters rather than anything else. I thought the underlying plot was fairly good, but it was heavily hidden by the awful actions of the characters. It did start to improve near the end, so I would give book 2 a try.
*I received a complimentary copy of the e-book from LoveBooksTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
