I received a proof copy of this book for review. It started off very well, I engaged with the story from the start and excitement was building. I felt after the initial strong start there was as a long period of character building for the first quarter of the story. It was definitely worth sticking with as the remainder of the book was excellent. There was plenty of suspense & I wanted to know the outcome.

This series has been a surprise for me because I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I’m doing. I loved the first book and this one was no exception. I really really enjoyed it.

This book revolves more around Sebastian and his past. Throughout the story, we discover several things about his life, which is interesting.

Despite being a massive book, the writing is very fluid and we fly through the pages.

I really liked the way they investigated the case. The book is not predictable but the revelation of the killer was not extraordinary though. It was not the main focus of the story. It’s interesting to see the word game between Hinde, the serial killer, and Sebastian, the man who put him behind jail.

It's an addictive read. I highly recommend it.

It stared a solid 4 stars, fast paced, engaging, a real page-turner and ended a 3-3.5. At over 700 pages, and when you already know “whodunnit”, it dragged quite a bit. The length of this book could be cut in half and the pacing and tension would be the better for it. Overall a good Scandinavian police procedural for fans of “silence if the lambs” and the like.

Side note: There are a few intolerably idiotic characters in this story of which one very annoying and delusional character named Ellinor that made me want to put the book down every time she appeared.
