Finished Murakami’s The City and Its Uncertain Walls. I had to put it away and come back to it a few times over the past couple of months, as it feels a bit padded (and speed read through a few sections in the last third).
His awkward and borderline creepy way of writing about his protagonists sexuality, and underdeveloped female characters is still on display, but much less prominent this time thank god.
This is the first time he has written an afterword for one of his novels that I can recall, and it does help fill in the how and why questions that came while reading it — but overall enjoyed it as I do most of his work.
…the story delves into Severance territory, in an interesting way, and Murakami touches on why in his afterword.

This was just too long. I thought parts were very interesting and it was definitely original, but I was a little disappointed.
