It's a 4.5 star read mostly because "pirate speak" annoys the H out of me and there's a lot of it here.
I get that it's a story about pirates, but did they really have such poor and annoying grammar?
Apart from that, I really enjoyed the bait-and-switch Kenyon plays with who the main couple will be and there's tons of little hints that the universes will be colliding and all the separate series are all related.
Devyl Bane is a cool character and I particularly love that Thorn is getting some much needed page time. The little bits that get tossed in there about the rest of the pirate crew are choice tidbits to catch the reader's attention and definitely worked with me.
My one bone of contention (aside from the dreaded pirate speak) is that so many story threads get left up in the air. I get that this is the introduction to the Deadman's Cross universe, but couldn't there have been a few more pages to wrap things up a bit more?

Another amazing book by an amazing author. love the characters there were a few spots that kinda lagged for me but it ended on an emotional rollercoaster that made me glad I sat down with enough time to read the last 100 pages in one sitting

Had potential, didn't deliver. Felt too drawn out in places and lost interest. Also seemed to switch up the main female character/love interest just randomly. I found the first girl way more interesting than the other. Can't even remember their names though. meh.

So I don't think you can really read this and understand it without previous knowledge of her other books. There is lot of crossover, and I was a bit confused at times because I haven't read any of the Dark Hunters books - just the Chronicles of Nick which has a lot of crossover characters of its own. I liked learning about the different characters and what they could do, and I thought the beginning setup is very compelling. I was here for the morally grey pirate crew with supernatural powers. Toward the middle of the book however, it's like a switch is flipped and it has such a focus on romances as opposed to focusing on the crazy woman trying to kill all the humans. The ending a a tad rushed as well, I thought, but I overall had a good time while reading it purely as a quick, entertaining read.

As always, I enjoyed the story and the design of characters from Sherrilyn and her worlds. I've never gotten into the Deadman's storyline but this was a wonderful way into the story.
Really well written, really emotion filled and has great humor. I always know I'll enjoy the story when I pick up one of her books.

Let me start by saying I love the Dark Hunter series. Some of them were a little slow for me and some of them (Acheron and Styxx) we’re down right hard to get through but I stuck by then and overall it’s one of my favorite series. So I was obviously excited to start this, Pirates, romance, danger, what’s not to love? Turns out, the whole thing is impossible to even like. The whole book is so unorganized, the main character changes a third of the way in. The romance feels so fake. I’m so disappointed in this first book I doubt I’ll read any further into the series.

I couldn't add the half star, I did or would give it a 2 1/2 stars, I read it but it isn't a typical read for me. it was different and I did enjoy it but I wouldn't read again.
