Brooke Emerson is the seemingly perfect girl, but inside she is completely lost. Ever since she sustained a head injury during a cheerleading stunt the previous year, she’s suffered from a disorder that causes her to fly into uncontrollable violent rages (IED).
As hard as she tries to keep it together, she finds herself in danger of jeopardizing her life.
It isn’t until she meets Jake, a handsome and charismatic stranger, that she feels like she’s found someone who not only understands her, but accepts her for who she is.
As tempting as it is to get swept up in the romance, she can’t help but feel like something in their relationship isn’t quite right.
When her best friend is brutally murdered, Brooke has no choice but to depend on her new love...especially because she's worried that she might be the killer.
My Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5
This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I liked it a lot! It was very different from the other books I've been reading lately, which was a unique change of pace.
This book was a quick and short read, and I was hooked from the beginning. The plot was interesting, but also very predictable- I knew almost exactly what the ending would look like from the beginning of the book. The real murder only happened around page 250 and then the hunt to find the killer happened faster than I would've liked. I loved how the author took the time to set up the characters but the book could have moved a bit slower to me. Nevertheless, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy a quick, thrilling murder mystery novel

At first, it just seemed way too juvenile. I get that it’s a YA novel, but I usually find the style of writing in the books I choose is a little more sophisticated than this. I did still enjoy it and got a lot more interested and invested as the story progressed.

I didn’t hate reading this book. The main character actually has some decent development. However, I very rarely read mystery books and I guessed the twist from the start. I also refuse to believe that a 17 year old in the 2020s (this came out in 2020) would fall so easily for a man’s manipulation when they have so much access to information on the internet.
Graphic: Toxic relationship and Stalking
Moderate: Self harm
Minor: Murder

I didn’t have a lot of expectations going into this, but I definitely was blown away. Near the end my hands were shaking a bit.
One major lesson that is NEVER in fiction like this and needs to be more often: If shit feels off or hits the fan, GO TELL YOUR MOM. Or a trusted adult. Talk to your counselor. Just TALK to SOMEONE.

Good to read and easy to understand while following the flow of story line. However, it's nothing special and slightly failed to amaze me.
