Some of these I did like, but mostly I found the stories to be very unfocused or just trying too hard to scare you. Extremely repetitive at times that it feels like I’m reading the same story again.

It was fine; a collection of short stories; some shorter than others, but nothing that I haven't read before, which is why I picked it. I knew that I'd at least enjoy it, but it's not one of those books that I need to read over and over.

I enjoy horror anthologies - “Creepshow” in book form, if you will.

I recognize that anthologies can always be a hit or miss, especially since different sub genres of horror appeal to different types.

In this collection, the stories that appeal to me are too short - and the longer form ones are too long. There is a certain missing element to the horror that keeps any one story stand out as the spooky or scary essential read of the collection.

I appreciate the prominence of horror in the fiction world - but it seems like everyone is attempting to take our favorite horror classic themes, tropes and plot devices and put them to paper - and they just don’t translate.

As an opportunity to read some scary stories during October - I’m not mad at the book. The stories fit the season. But as an actual well-written horror anthology - something is missing.

This collection of stories is reminiscent of the trips I used to make to the video store with my family as a kid in the 80s. I remember the wild VHS box covers in the horror section—a crazy variety of monsters, slashers, aliens and all things creepy. And that’s a good description for this collection. There were a few stories that I felt were not as strong as the others, but overall this was a creepy walk down memory lane.

All in all, I had a lot of fun with Video Nasties. Other than the titular story, my favorite story was Mental. I would easily read a book expanding on the ideas in this story. There were a couple of stories I didn't care for, but the same could be said of any given collection. 4.25 stars

This is a collection of sixteen short horror stories about different subjects. Some are gruesome, some are claustrophobic, others cause psychological horror. I found the quality level to be variable, and while I enjoyed some of them, others didn’t touch me.

Rick Gregory’s narration was adequate for this material, delivering the story without interfering, with a very clear diction and the right nuances to make the characters distinguishable. All in all, an enjoyable narration.

I would recommend this book to anyone into horror, and the format of the stories makes them perfect to listen to during short idle moments.

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

I dnf this I struggled for a long time and I'm usually a decently fast reader. I just couldn't get into this. I'm not sure why but it felt like listening to one of my kids telling me about a book they were reading. The point was getting across but my attention was wandering...hard. 2 stars because the short story The Mentals was amazing and I wish it had been its own book. I may come back to this at a later date and maybe then it will be better. This time it just wasn't for me.
