I have to say that this was one of my more disappointing David Williams books. It felt a little forced and the storyline did not seem engaging in the manner of his previous books.

This was our first David Walliams book, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Completely wacky and ridiculous and fun and feel goody. However, I think a lot of the fun was from the audio version; it was so well done and superbly narrated (by Walliams himself). I don’t think the experience would have been quite as magnificent reading on our own. Perfect for my 8yo boy.

Frank’s father was once a famous and beloved race car driver, but a nasty accident becomes his unfortunate downfall. Broke, jobless and out of his luck, he takes a job that will keep him and Frank out of the red. Quickly however, Frank learns that his dad has unexpectedly been doing dirty work for a notorious gangster and his henchmen that will wrongly put him in the clink, and that’s it up to him to save him.

Walliams is, no doubt, THE modern day Roald Dahl. Everything from the illustrations, characters and storytelling vibes match Dahl’s beloved children’s books. Frank and his dad’s story is just so full exhilarating wit, adventure and excitement from start to finish, and we see a son who will stop at nothing to protect his father. An incredible father-son story that really does make out like a winner at the finish line. A (100%/Outstanding)

I love the audiobooks of David Walliams. This was another banger! It's like a gift to my inner child, haha. The actors were amazing, the effects made it even more engaging. Overall, a great production! I like that the character had layers and didn't feel flat. This feeds the need for those stories from the past but made in a progressive and engaging way. I liked that it was as much predictable, as inpredictable - just enough to have tension but not so much that one wonders whether it will be a sad or happy ending. I really enjoyed it!

Kirjan viehätys suurelta osin myös kuvituksen ansiosta.
