not my favorite nick cutter book, but still a wild ride. my favorite line was delivered by the token corrupted priest during a pivotal drink-the-koolaid moment:

“i’ve never lied to you,” he lied. “i never have lied to you.”

there’s something about the blunt delivery that made me chuckle at the absurdity. i find myself quoting it when i watch things on the news.

Started off so slow for the first 80-100 pages (took me over a week), then it dug its claws in and wouldn't let up (just a few hours, didn't want to put it down). I'm glad I stuck with it!

This is Nick Cutter's best book, in my opinion. Strange, disturbing, fantastical and absolutely wild, this incredibly original horror book addresses some of the darkest topics in fiction. Cutter pushes his readers to their limits with this story, doing so unapologetically and with little explanation. There are parts of this book that I think about and they still scare me. The epilogue broke my heart and is a MUST READ to complete this story. I'm not sure who I would recommend this book to, but if you are looking for something that will push you well outside your comfort zone, this is the book for you!
