Elphame is The Chosen One. She is a descendant of Epona, The Warrior Goddess of the Horse and Benefactress of the Fruits of the Harvest. Elphame is meant for great things. She just doesn’t know it yet but she will soon. The people of Partholon depend on her.

To be honest, this book sounded better than it was. I have never read PC Cast before but wanted to try her out. I figured now was a good time, since she was starting a new series. I can’t remember what this book really is about as I gave up on it twice. The first time I barely got past chapter three and the next time I got about a third of the way into this book and promptly put it down with no remorse. This storyline and the characters were a little too unbelievable for my taste. From what I read though, that PC Cast’s other series are much better. Maybe I will give those a try.

I loved this one. It was so rich in characters. Elphame's difficulty opening up to people because of her past, but good heartedness to the very end. Her brother's rejection of the spirit world and how that ended up being his downfall. This story presents characters with dark pasts and manages to find the light and goodness in each of their futures, even in the most evil race of them all, the fomorians.

Surprisingly this was the first book i read from the Parthalon series. It encouraged me to continue reading these books. As soon as i finished this one i had to grab the others. Such an intricate world, written well and includes amazing detail. I Loved it.I picked this book up at the airport so wasnt expecting much of it.A great read.

It took me five days to read this book? IT FELT SO MUCH LONGER.

1.5 stars because while I didn't HATE it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even an avid romance reader. I also didn't hate it as much as [b:Mystic City|13411245|Mystic City (Mystic City, #1)|Theo Lawrence|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1335017886s/13411245.jpg|18665223] because at least Elphame has a brain, unlike Aria.

There is sooo much I want to say about this book I don't even know where to begin. First off, I LOVED the Parthenon series and P.C. Cast is quickly becoming my favorite author of all time. I loved her Goddess Summoning series as well, anyway...This book fits in perfectly with the Parthenon series, it is actually set a hundred and some years after Rhiannon. The characters in this book are so vivid and so devoted to their faith it almost makes me jealous, and wish that I could also have that kind of faith in something, anything really. P.C. Cast makes you feel like you are in the book and you are actually there with the people and apart of everything. While reading (even up to 25 hours without sleep) it was like I was watching a movie and you know one of the characters is about to do something stupid and you are yelling at the TV "DON'T GO IN THERE" but they don't listen to you, of course. While reading this book I squealed, I laughed, I cried (yes, I actually did), I yelled, and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Lochlan. Wow, what a character...I love him, and adore him absolutely. I know I can get an older copy of Brighid's Quest but...I want to wait so my whole series will match the re-release from Mira. I can't get enough, I have to go read the Parthenon series again, just because I don't want to let this world go just quite yet. The one thing that is even remotely not 100% positive was: I am unsure if this fits in the YA series genre...there is some sex in it, which is fine, but it still read like an adult novel to me, but who knows, book was amazing though.

I loved the book, though i ended up reading the second one first, this set more context for me. I was driven to this via the house of night series.
