I didn’t find any of this particularly funny. Wasn’t looking for comedy but they didn’t emphasize “kind of” enough in the title. Maybe it’s a better book for a teenager but this felt angsty and broody. A little “Go Ask Alice,” if you will. The dialogue was engaging and the writing was fine…but the story was insignificant and plot was lackluster.

This book took me a while to get through. In all honesty it was one of my least favorite reads. I didn't like how a good half of the book was just about sex. Especially considering the charcters who are 15. I know teenagers have sex but having be such a big part of the book was actually annoying and made it hard to read, it disgusted me a little. I'm also not sure if I'm just making a big deal of this but I didn't like how the book talked about a certain caharcter who was described as, "transvestile." I know it was a different time but I really didn't like seeing a slur ( not the word transvestile btw) on page for absolutely no reason. It added nothing to the story.

Wow.

The ending monologue of the book really sold it for me. Those verbs are yours. They always have been, you can live them just because you can. The simple things that life has to offer, just the feeling of breathing and knowing there’s a whole system in your body responsible for taking care and filtering that air. When your brain is screwed up, it really is hard to like the other parts of life since you process the information through your brain. This book was beautiful. I feel like the author went in my brain and pulled out my thoughts himself.

I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Live. Live. Live. Live. Live.

Been on the shelf for years. Took a while to get into but a lovely, lovely read. Very real perspective on mental health and recovery.
