“So now live for real, Craig. Live. Live. Live. Live.”

this book was good both in the sense that it was gripping and easy to read but also real in the sense that there were real life problems and struggles and these were kind of normalised in a way.

tw: unalive thoughts, SH, depression
i liked the way the author gave the imagery of “tentacles” and “anchors”, the former being things that get in the way of your life and make you anxious and distressed, and the latter being things that you’re drawn to for happiness and to feel better.
i also liked the depiction of SI and what it felt like and how easy it is to slip into depression. though i did feel like the way Craig reached out was perhaps made to look “easy” when in reality this can be really hard.
i did like how diverse the community in the hospital was and how Craig became more open minded after hearing everyone’s stories throughout his stay.

would recommend if you’re looking for a book with mental illness rep but ofc check the tws first.

ehhhhhhh it was fineeeeeeee... i think it would've been life changing when i was 12-15 when i was like super depressed but then i would learn what happened to the author.
ALSO super hated the just mega transphobia like for no reason?? she was there just to be transphobia, left, got called a slur and never talked about again!
it was an ok book, been of a let down :(

Reminds me of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Not bad, but really check the trigger warnings before reading.

the only reason this book isn’t higher is because of the transphobia and racism.

This book took me a while to get through. In all honesty it was one of my least favorite reads. I didn't like how a good half of the book was just about sex. Especially considering the charcters who are 15. I know teenagers have sex but having be such a big part of the book was actually annoying and made it hard to read, it disgusted me a little. I'm also not sure if I'm just making a big deal of this but I didn't like how the book talked about a certain caharcter who was described as, "transvestile." I know it was a different time but I really didn't like seeing a slur ( not the word transvestile btw) on page for absolutely no reason. It added nothing to the story.
