I bought this book for my niece because of the number of reviews it got on Amazon and the illustration is really cute. But dang the story is so not cute, especially the wording in some parts. The mother came off possessive and controlling and people can say it's a silly story the children won't see it negatively but I don't know... This book gives me the ick. I'm glad my niece can't read yet lol

It's the color panels that get me. And, because my mom read this one to me first, in my mind all the other similar ones are copycats... though I've never checked publication dates.

My mother read this to us so many times as children. Such a sweet book and so wrapped up in memories that I get teary thinking of it! I gave a copy to the first of my friends to have a kid, and I'll give one to all the rest of my friends who have offspring! May have to get one for my adult self too :)

The illustrations switch back and forth between black-and-white sketches beneath short passages of text and full-color paintings without any text that fill the next spread of pages. The plot of the book is simple--a young bunny discusses all the ways he will try to run away from his mother, but every time, she reassures him that she will find an equally cunning way to find him because “he is her bunny.” In the end, he gives up trying to resist his mother’s love. As the little bunny goes out and explores the world (becoming a fish in the sea, a mountain climber, and ship that sails far away, etc.), readers are introduced to worlds beyond their own early zones of proximal development. Books like this also help young readers imagine and test the boundaries of their parents’ devotion, which is an important step in helping them build a bond of trust with their primary caregiver.

Is Mother Bunny controlling or being playful with her Little Bunny? I wasn't sure how to read this one and I think it could go either way.

Mother Bunny's last line made me laugh. I thought about the book all day and read it again this evening. The last line made me laugh again. Is this a common adult reaction?

I imagined all the things Mother Bunny could be feeling at the end. Relieved, exhausted, happy, nurturing. Like Goodnight Moon, I enjoyed the illustrations very much. Charming and colorful. I especially enjoy the one where Mother Bunny is fishing with a carrot on the line.

Brief summary a mother and child bunny talk about what would happen if s/he ran away.
Annotation a charming story of how a mother shows how much she loves her little bunny.
Age appropriateness 0-5
Connection to six early literacy skills a good one for narrative. The story is told so that you want to know what happens each time and if the little bunny decides to stay or not
Five practices -Reading is best reflected here.
Opinion- This is a classic story and a reassuring story for children who might worry about how much their families love them,

Maybe my favorite picture book of all time. My kids loved this too. A story about a mother bunny who will always be there for her little rascal.
