Another CJ tudor book where the villain is the fake disabled person. Another absolutely TRASH thriller resting on this set of boring, out of touch tropes. That disabled people fake their disabilities, that disabled people are villainous, that disabled people should be met with suspicion.
I'm honestly shocked at the number of thrillers whose major plot twist is that the disabled person was faking it all along. For one thing, it's not even believable. People do not fake full paralysis or catatonia or any disability for decades! But it's swallowed by audiences because the idea that disabled people are bad and manipulative is an easy reach. This is the messaging we receive all the time - disability dole bludgers etc. And these books don't play on these beliefs in a clever or challenging way, they rely on them to carry their pathetic plots and end up reinforcing these ideas.
CJ TUDOR - COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW. After Burning Girls which does the exact same thing, I went off her novels. A year later, I wanted a quick and easy thriller and made the mistake of picking up this tired garbage. Aside from being disgustingly ableist, and embarassing in its lack of self awareness, it's lazy, boring and the sign of an incredibly weak story teller.
So CJ tudor joins the ranks of Colleen hoover, Riley sager, thomas Harris and sooo many more pathetic thriller "writers" who can't think of anything more intelligent than to rest their story on ableism.
This book also commits the sin of being incredibly boring. There was no tension, no atmosphere, piss weak character development. Before the reveal that prompted this rant, I was putting in the 1.5-2 star range. Honestly a trash read, and not in the fun/juicy way.
