It seems a bit unfair giving this book three stars because I think it did exactly what it was trying to do: be a sweet little tale about English village life in 1972. But, nothing really happened, there were awkward shifts in between first and third person, and some of the writing was clunky. It was the first 'Miss Read' book I've read, and I'm sure it will the last.

Write a review...Once again, a great, easy going read from the pen of Miss read.
I just wish I had read some of the books that come in between this book, and the others I've read, as I found myself feeling like I have missed a great gap of the story's past.
That being said, it was still a great read as usual. Loved catching up with well known characters from the past.

Tyler's Row, the collection of four run-down cottages in Fairacre, is up for sale. The current owner no longer feels up to maintaining them. In fact, not much maintenance has been done for years. There's much speculation around the village about who might purchase property with two curmudgeonly tenants who can't be removed. However soon a lovely couple moves in and finds the village welcoming and the tenants more difficult than anticipated.
As with all Miss Read books this is a relaxing story with only a few mild episodes that are at all stress provoking. Just takes of rural village life. Pleasant. Sweet. Beautiful images of gardens and the countryside

Enjoyable, but would probably have been better if just written from the Tyler's Row perspective without trying to spelunk Miss Read in occasionally.

Tyler's Row is one of Miss Read's Fairacre novels. As I like the odd light read occasionally, I decided to purchase an omnibus edition, with this and two other books in the series. I definitely preferred the chapters here which were told using the third person perspective; those with the fictionalised Miss Read narrating felt a little dull in comparison. The novel is well crafted, but not a great deal happened. Regardless, this is an easy and enjoyable story, and I am looking forward to carrying on with the series.

More of the same. I hope my saying "more of the same" and "gentle" and "lovely sweet fictional village" over and over again doesn't make anyone think that these are not nuanced stories- they are. They are. And they make one yearn for village life- no matter that one would run screaming from same, should it be actually offered.
