This follow-up to [b:Detour for Emmy|374773|Detour for Emmy (Hamilton High, #1)|Marilyn Reynolds|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388280913l/374773._SY75_.jpg|364645] explores teen parenthood from the dad's side (though not Emmy's baby daddy). When his girlfriend gets pregnant, Jeff wants her to get an abortion, but she won't consider it, leaving him feeling powerless and frustrated. Considering that I could absolutely see myself feeling this way if I were in Jeff's shoes, I found Jeff surprisingly difficult to like or relate to. He just came across as a tool in the first half of the book, which I recognize is meant to set him up for character growth, but it was slow going. It picks up in the second half. The stakes are definitely lower in this book than in Emmy's, which makes sense given the biological realities of human reproduction, but it's definitely not as compelling a read.
