I watched the BBC show for this ages ago and it always stuck with me so when I found the book in a charity shop I wanted to pick it up. It's dark and unflinchingly honest, terrible tragedy and abuse in an uptight small town at a time when these things weren't talked about. A tough read, take the trigger warnings seriously, but also beautifully written with complex characters all trapped in some way or another.
