Beautiful story, fabulous art. One of my favorites for reading aloud to kids.

The cover of this book was quite faded when I picked it up from the library—the title and the cover did not entice me, but inside—I was delighted! The illustrations are so vibrant and magical and this fabulous story (truly the stuff of fables) of a King that learns the joy that giving gives over the empty and insatiable lust for gifts.
Quiltmakers and kings will especially enjoy this story.

Truly an amazing book that I wish I could read with every child in the world that is older than 5-years-old and can therefore feel empathy. My 5-year-old son actually had tears in his eyes when we discussed poverty and how important it is to SEE beyond where we live in an affluent area of California. Beautiful colors and quilt patterns.

This is one of my absolute favorite childhood reads. Every time the question comes up - "what is your favorite book you read as a child".. its THIS book. The illustrations, the story, the writing. Everything about it is beautiful and so incredibly meaningful. I had wanted to reread this for a long time and I am so glad that I did. I know this will be a book I read to my own children and hopefully continue the love of it through them.

I grew up with my mom reading this book to me very often when I was tucked into bed. The art is beautiful and so is the story. It teaches valuable lessons about not being greedy and finding joy in other's happiness. This is a book every parent should read to their children.

The quilt maker's gift
Audio children's book about a woman who was a quilter. She made the prettiest ones of all.
Blue came from the ocean, white from snow, green/purple from flowers, other colors from sunsets.
Magic in her fingers....others say the quilts came from angels when they fell off their shoulders...
she also brought them to the homeless and she'd start a new one the next day. King is greedy not only having his birthday 2x a year but he wants everybody's gifts.
He wants to smile, he looks for a special item...she gives him a selection and choices....
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Gorgeous illustrations and beautiful story. This is a good book to read with pre-schoolers (lots of things to draw the eye and a good moral lesson in the story).
