Two and a half. I was loving this for about the first 2/3. Then it takes a pretty dopey, melodramatic turn. The ending is abrupt and flat out dumb. Pretty disappointing but I did like Maine and I'll still read her new one.

I'm thinking this will be an easy summer read. Looks like the same old story about girls bonding about stuff, and probably someone dies or at the very least gets sick. Count me in.
EDIT: I was right, this was a pretty boring light read. Now back to good, depressing books that actually have meat to their characters - unlike this dribble of a novel.

i enjoyed the slow meandering of this and the stories and characterizations of the women, but towards the end it turned into a suspense/action kind of thing, which did not seem to fit with the rest of the book.

A thought provoking look at friendship and the modern woman's struggle to find her way in a post-college world.

i felt kinda "meh" about this book. i guess i was expecting it to be really insightful and applicable to the friendships *i* had with my college roommates and make me feel nostalgic and excited for our futures. instead, i found it kind of just... not at all applicable. the characters were nothing like my friends, and the whole women's college thing made almost all of the experiences in the book different than my own... and experiences to which i could not at all relate. i guess it was an okay book, overall, but i felt that the character development was lacking, and it all just seemed a little over the top.

Too many irritating errors re: Bay Area geography!
* One doesn't move "down" to San Francisco from Stanford.
* Commuting between Palo Alto and San Francisco is a very viable option, despite what this book implies.
* There is no train between Novato and San Francisco.
* There is no highway lined with palm trees between Novato and San Francisco.
* It is impossible to get from anywhere on Vallejo St. to Novato in 20 minutes.

Good but weird. Chick lit with a serious feminist overlay.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a feminist coming-of-age story, very well written, but the ending is very abrupt. Great book overall, just don't expect to get to the end and go "now that's how it's done!"
