This whole series has been absolutely amazing. With quite a lot of popular trilogies: The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner; the first books were amazing, the second ones ok, but by the third one, I feel like it’s been dragged on and I lost interest. With this series, I have been fully invested, heart and soul. You find yourself so wholeheartedly attached to some of the characters and the plot just hooks you. The whole series has been an emotional rollercoaster and I’m so happy I picked up The Witch’s Kiss.

OKAY...It started off so well! About halfway through after the ending to a main cliffhanger plot point, it just got childish and boring! So disappointed since I actually enjoyed the second novel in this trilogy...Saddening!

A really good conclusion to the trilogy.

Merry still felt more Juvenile than 17 to me.

My main problem with this series is that it sometimes feels like manipulating Merry and Leo so they're always in a relationship is more important to the authors than serving the plot properly.

This book was a lovely end to the series - and continued the trend of being just... really easy and quick to read.

It picks up directly where the last book left off, unsurprisingly, and dives straight into the plot.
this meant that the pacing of the book as a whole was... pretty odd in a way?
The beginning portion went super fast, and then it really hit the breaks, before gearing back up to the finale. This isn't something that particularly bothered me, as I don't mind this sort of stop/start in books as long as the rest is good - in fact, I often prefer this sort of format than trying to keep the stakes really high throughout the whole novel. It was nice to get that small breather in the middle, and it gave a chance to see the relationships develop a little bit more in the down time.

The relationships felt like a strength of these books as a whole. Though the first book felt almost insta-love-y between Merry and Jack, this fell into that sort of "it is a bit insta-love, but I can kinda see why maybe?". And nice to see that the subsequent romance was definitely a lot less like this, with Finn and Merry having a lot more substance to them and their relationship. I also very much appreciated the lack of love triangle in this book. It could have been there for sure, but was deftly side-stepped. Merry did have the right amount of feelings in the situation, but was decisive enough to say what/who she wanted and stick with that.

One thing I will note is that a lot of the times, the writing, or dialogue, felt a little funky to me? But I realise this is more... Merry often sounds like a 17 year old girl.
And I am not 17.
And a lot of YA nowadays... does not read like it has 17 year old characters.
So taking this into consideration, I almost appreciate that this does feel like a teen-novel, aimed at someone younger than me - and that's totally ok.

That isn't to say that writing isn't perfect, but I do feel it has improved on the previous two books where it was more just passable.

All the books in this seris 5*. I cannot believe how good these books are.

Why I love this series so much:
* Merry is a kick-ass character, but she is really down to earth as well. I would love to be friends with her in real life. She is inspiring, but not really far-fetched or unrealistic. She is just a perfect main character.
* Her sidekick is her brother, Leo. He is a great guy, and I love how their connection is so strong because they are brother and sister. No love interest stuff going on, they just would go through fire for each other because duh.
* These books are so action packed, I feel like I've read an entire series after reading a single installment.

I love how they are not afraid to let people die in there books. It rips my heart out but it is great writing. Makes the battles more realistic as well.

And this makes it that I really thought Merry was going to die! That she was going to be saved by Leo in a beautiful but sad way. But gosh, how perfect is this ending.

I honestly cried a little because this series is finished now. This is honestly one of the best series I've ever read. I love these books with all my heart.

A sufficient and imaginative ending to the trilogy. Kinda sad that it's over. :(

Picking up directly from the jaw dropping cliffhanger in book 2, this continues the story of teenage witch Merry as she and her friends/family tackle a new magical problem. First of all, Merry is a wonderful protagonist, and I thought she was even more strong and determined in achieving her aims in this instalment of the series. I loved the way in which her relationship with Finn developed, and I was rooting for them desperately to succeed in their romance despite the difficult situations they were in throughout the book. The secondary characters, most notably Merry`s lovely brother Leo and Finn`s cousin, who was introduced in this book, are also excellent additions to the cast, and I enjoyed the complicated dynamics of Merry`s coven, which is responsible for a lot of the conflict within the book, as well as a deeply horrible villain I don`t want to mention for fear of spoiling someone who hasn`t read the 2nd book yet! The ways in which the contemporary and fantasy elements intersect is really interesting too, and I also thought the magic system was fantastic as it both refers to back to elements we`ve seen in previous books and introduces new ones. I hadn`t expected the ending to go where it did, but it was a brilliant conclusion that`s left me looking forward to whichever of their secret projects Kate and Liz release next. 4.5/5
