Renee Ballard as a tough ass LA detective on it to solve horrendous crimes in her analytical out the door way. She’s so good. Loved this

Couldn't finish it, I got so sick of the descriptions of whether others were wearing a mask or not.

Good story line but it was over shadowed with the pandemic, masks, vax and politics. Disappointing that a book can’t just be a book without making your political bias know through the characters.

The mystery and crime aspect? Good
A satisfying ending? Not really

Throughout this book I felt that the pandemic was shoehorned in, almost as if the book was written prior and then quickly followed up with “shit, better talk about masks and vaccines”.

The mentions of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter without taking any kind of stance was also strange

"The dark side of the moon was where people lived who had been through what Cindy Carpenter had just been through. Where a few dark hours changed everything about every hour that would come after. The place that only the people who had been through it understood. Life was never the same." Yep!
As a fan of the Netflix series, Titus Welliver’s narration added a star to my appreciation/enjoyment of this one.

Couldn't put it down but also I really hate reading about rapes and break-ins so...not my favorite in that respect.

Needless inclusion of current events was excessive. In my opinion it detracted from what otherwise was a decent mystery.
