This is an entertaining novel but Harry Bosch only is a side interest and all of the action is about another character who is dealing with several crimes and also the Los Angeles police department which is ineffective and heavily involved in political deficiencies. The Covid pandemic is one issue that is involved along with the dark web and other conflicts but the persevering lady detective is ambitious and imaginative in her pursuit of justice.

I have been a long standing reader of many crime series over the years. I must say that the Harry Bosch books have consistently been the best of the bunch. This new series with Rene Ballard is no exception. The book was riveting from beginning to end. I highly recommend almost any book in this series!

always love Harry Bosch

His thrillers are always fun to read. Makes you sorry about the state of our police departments though. I'm sure they are all caught up in red tape like any govt organization.

One of the best M. Connelly books I've read in a while. Good story and plot. Interesting characters.
Renee Ballard is a kick as woman cop, and Connelly portrays her well. Well written. Just plain old good reading.

What a great book to start 2022! Another teaming of Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch combines a terrific procedural with a depiction of the state of policing in L.A. post George Floyd and during a pandemic. While on the late shift on New Year's Eve, Ballard has teamed up with another woman in case a pair of serial rapists strike. She catches a shooting case that has ties to an open case lad by Harry Bosch. She and Bosch team up off the books to share info. What makes Connelly's books so compelling is how the details keep adding up and end up in a puzzle box of a plot. Highly recommended!

i still love the harry bosch universe, but this book definitely didn’t have enough of harry himself in it.
fantastic audiobook narration by christine lakin and titus welliver made it seem more like the TV show than a book- time flew!

I really do like Ballard. But the more she becomes like Bosch, the less.
