This was pretty good. I find Frankie to be a very interesting protagonist and I really hope Lisa Gardener continues this series. If you like Jack Reacher, you'll love this.
I did however, thought the ending was a bit underwhelming, I guess I was expecting a bit "more" to happen. And the killer wasn't that scary in my opinion.  I think this is more survival horror than psychological thrilling.

I don't usually read thrillers, but I have enjoyed this one. I mainly loved the descriptions of the wilderness.

I haven't read the first book in the series, but I could follow the story just fine. The only thing is that it kept referring to a past love, and where I could understand the impact that it had on Frankie, I did't feel the impact.
Another flaw is that I wished that I would have loved the characters more. I feel like it would increase the stakes and make it more thrilling. A grumpy old dad and a few members from dudeville? No offence, but I don't care much if you stay alive or not. (Don't get me wrong, there were a few others I did care for, mainly because they where friendly towards Frankie. (and Daisy ofc, as she's the best dog))

Lisa Gardner knocks it out of the park with this story. One Step Too Far may very be one of the most well-constructed thrillers I’ve read.

Some readers might find the beginning slow moving, but information is teased out so cleverly that the pages keep turning.

You’ve got interpersonal drama, betrayals, a diverse and realistic cast, and a main character whose humanity I felt strongly, topped off with an incredibly well-constructed, complex and compelling plot.

Gardner uses descriptive, accessible language, she is not flowery but her imagery is rich and compelling. Her characters are human, well developed and easy to relate to.

The clues are teased out consistently and while the first half may feel slow to some the climax is a hundred pages of gripping action that will have you white knuckling your way through. We the readers are given a satisfying conclusion to the story, and a dénûment I’d describe as gentle and thoughtful.

For those who worry:
the dog doesn’t die.

Kudos to Gardner for keeping me up til 2 AM to finish this fantastic novel.

I didn’t want to put it down - and then it got creepy and I had to so I could sleep. Overall, great book. Only 4 stars because I was expecting a bigger shock at the end because of how well the book was written.

Lisa Gardner has done it again - another excellent Frankie Elgin novel. Lots of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Kept me guessing until the end. Big twist for the finale but it made total sense. The characters are flawed but lovable. And the service dog Daisy is a delight!
