JA Jance was coming to town to talk about her new book "Blessing of the Lost Girls" so I thought I'd give a book by her a read. I chose "Desert Heat," her first Joanna Brady book, to get in on a series from the start. I read some of the book and listened to the audiobook on a road trip. Overall, I was very entertained by Desert Heat and liked both the lead, Joanna Brady, who is digging around hoping to prove her recently deceased husband was not involved in some dirty dealings. The books speeds along with twists and turns along the way. While I don't think everything was tied up neat enough I was never bored by the story and intrigued enough to seek out a few more JA Jance books to read.

I dislike when authors use children as props and don’t write them as real people. The main character’s 10ish-year-old daughter: her dad is murdered and she sees her mom kill someone else. Zero reaction from the kid, other than to ask if they can keep the guy’s dog her mom killed.

I have found a new series to read! This book grabbed me and made me want to read more about Joanna, the plot was interesting and the characters were interesting…

I'm not mystery buff, so I don't know how great this book is compared to others of its kind. It was decent. I remember reading it quickly but not being impressed. Perhaps it's better than I recall. Either way, I won't be rereading it anytime soon. I read this in a mini-seminar class in college.

I very much enjoyed this first in a series book. I already have bought the second. Great little mystery set in Bisbee, AZ filled with characters that seem real. Easy to get into and read.
