I love Marja.
I'd forgotten what the synopsis was before i started this and was surprised and it was great. Read this in less than two days! I could think of a couple very minor questions that i'm curious about, maybe fleshing out a couple side characters a little more, but i loved it regardless.
Thank you netgalley :)

Oh my gosh this book was so good. It never went the direction I assumed it would, and it was surprisingly funny. Another 5 star read for the year!
I loved that the author broke the fourth wall, it was never out of place, and always got a chuckle out of me. And don’t get me started on the dog that barks when you cuss, that was too good.

So basically, it had amazing potential and then it all went south. The plot was all over the place, discombobulated, and messy. I feel like the author wrote down a bunch of random ideas and went: yes, I want all. Also, the dialogue was poorly written, and I couldn’t actually immerse myself in the story. It felt fake and not natural.
I wish I would have liked it, but it was too much of a mess (and not a hot one).

probably the worst book i’ve ever read. not because i didn’t enjoy it, it was fun and cute. just predictable and the writing was mid.

Seemed interesting and started okay but idk I feel like it’s going in a completely different direction after marja shot a guy and whatnot and I just don’t think im gonna like that type of story lol

This was not what I expected. I thought the writing was good and fun, but the plot could've been better fleshed out.
CW: murder, bullying, mentions of previous rape and grooming, impregnation without consent, cheating, mother cutting off contact with her child
SPOILER: As a person who doesn't want kids I hate when characters who don't want kids (and are very clear on that and have multiple reasons for why) change their minds.

Darcy is getting married to a man who is her dream come true. But a week before her wedding her best friend gives her a confession. This confession changes everything and now Darcy must go on a road trip to the ceremony with her estranged mother.
There are a few comments in this book that I feel should have been edited out. One quote "So, instead of a weekend bag for a tall woman with skin so far I almost qualify as handicapped" I felt this was an unnecessary comment. It didn't need to be put there and I felt it was very insensitive it did originally make me want to dnf. There are other comments that did make me eye roll. There was not enough research into parts of this book.
We did have some time jumping that did confuse me a little.
I carried on reading and l enjoyed the drama of Darcy traveling with her mother Marja. I did like how we got an inner monologue, I'm a big fan of that in books. It felt like read for a sunny day by the pool.
Way more research needed to go into certain subjects. There are several spelling errors/grammar errors. Now I'm not the best speller, but even I noticed them.
Words are used and I don't feel the author knows the meaning, which is incredibly frustrating because it takes 5 seconds to google a word and know the meaning. Especially when you're writing it in a book, this book needed a lot more editing.
