If you are really into horror, I highly recommend Everson because he makes me so completely uncomfortable in almost all of his stories. Maybe I'm getting weak in my older age, but he always pushes the boundaries of my comfort levels and leaves my skin crawling a little bit. He still keeps a balance of not being gratuitous and having a great story line to be the foundation for it all. I really enjoyed this one, especially when the main character started to fight back. THAT is when it got really interesting!

This book was a very interesting and suspenseful read. I spent the first half of the book hoping that Austin (our protagonist) would wake up and realize how dangerous his mysterious new girlfriend (Regina) is, and the second half biting my nails and praying that he would be able to save his baby. I was never bored while reading this story. I also really enjoyed the ending of the book.
My only complaint would be that there was A LOT of dark and disturbing descriptions of BDSM that would make Satan himself blush. That part of the story was not for me.
I highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy dark horror-thrillers and don’t mind a little kink and Satanic worship.

Everson blends erotica and horror in this novel about a (not particularly likable) young widower who gets caught up in an extensive sexual fantasy club that is governed by contemporary witches. Elements of suspense enter the second half when his baby girl is kidnapped with the purpose of sacrificing her life to increase the power of the coven. Daddy races time to save her.
This is not the type of novel I would ever choose to read. The sexual aspect is not sensual as in most romance novels, but rather leans to BDSM including bondage and cutting. Lots of blood. That said, there is a decent amount of suspense and a nice twist at the conclusion.
Have read one previous book by Everson and this is better writing with a stronger plot line. The club is well defined and the seductress is definitely alluring. Everson, an Illinois author, is a great speaker and fun to chat with and totally understands that this type of novel isn't for everyone. Glad he has his fans.

For part of my spooky October, I listened to the audiobook of The Devil's Equinox. While I liked the opening and other parts of the book, I think there was too much time spent trying to wrap it up.

❝If you’re living like life is over then you might as well be six feet underground
We follow Austin a man who one day wishes his wife would just die but sooner than later he will learn that wishes sometimes can be deadly.
This is the first book I’ve ever read by John Everson and I must say he did not disappoint, I have always loved the concept of witches but it is always done so lightly which isn’t a bad thing but it always leaves me wanting more and THAT Everson delivered. This book explores the dark side of the human mind, how easily a human can be perverted, persuaded etc. as well as magic, the power of words and the occult.
❝How easy a man is to deceive when a woman is involved
Yes our main character might not be the brightest of the bunch but that is what makes this novel so much more fun to read. Although flawed I appreciated that Austin was consistent throughout the book, not every character needs to develop into a redeemable human or become something that they are not just for the sake of the reader. Nothing was handed over to Austin on a silver plate and that was refreshing to see.
I did find some random inconsistencies throughout the book which were minor such as a baby being on the floor one second and the next it being on a chair, as well as mixed names at the beginning but that might be changed once the book is published.
I am going to close this up with a small disclaimer: There is a lot of sex in this book as well as a lot of graphic/gory content and if that is something that bugs you then you’ve been warned.
❝Life doesn’t sit still for death. If anything, it moves faster
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a horrifying boink fest! I do love a good horror, with the essence of Richard Laymon, completely bat-shit crazy but still entertaining at the same time. It’s also one that makes you wonder just how far will the author go and believe me he goes far. My favourite type of horror is more the ghosty side, but I do love to dip into the more gore, cult, 80s camp fun horror. This was all that and more!!
I liked Austin, loveable, down on his luck gullible Austin. If only he hadn’t gone to the pub that night, things would have been a lot LOT different.
His marriage isn’t great, he’s fed up and he’s seduced. Once his life changes and he’s introduced to Equinox, well, wowzers I had to make sure my audiobook wasn’t blasting too loudly. It may have excited some people

The Devil´s Equinox

Some say the devil is in the details.
Others say it walks the earth, only humans bring it life.
Both are true in this dark, graphic novel.
Austin´s details can be found in his secrets...the one where he wishes his wife, Angie, were dead. His mistake is sharing that secret with a devilish woman, a woman who decides she wants to make his wish come true, she wants Austin to be her next guest at the Club.
Then Angie is found dead and Regina has many details of her plan she wants to share with Austin....at the Club...
The violence and sex is graphic and detailed, and may not appeal to those with sensitivities to these subjects. Read this. Do it anyway. Take the plunge. Everson is a master of the genre, and has stories that draw you in right away.
Thanks to the publisher and author for this e-book ARC for review.

Devils Equinox is a bit of a tough one to put in a box, at least for me it is. I had assumed this was more of a horror, but that doesn’t really change my review of what we’ve got here. I say that only to let anyone reading this know what to expect. If i HAD to call it something, it would seem to me more off an Occult/Dark fantasy/ erotic hybrid. What’s here is well written, and those who are into those types of books would find even more enjoyment in it than I did.
Shortly after the death of his wife, which he had wished for, Austin enters into a relationship with his neighbor Regina. It doesn’t take long for things to get hot and heavy. Not everything is what it seems, as Austin, the protagonist finds out. It isn’t long before he is mixed up in a plot for power at the expensive of his daughter. Sex is a major part of this book. If that turns you off or bothers you, this book isn’t for you. If blasphemy is a turn off, this book isn’t for you. There is a lot of sex in this novel, a lot of it with occult and satanistic tones. I want to stress that because of sex and sacrilegious images are something you can’t deal with, you aren’t going to be able to make it through this.
Devils Equinox is a well written, occult/ dark erotic novel. Its a quick read. Further fleshing out of the protagonist and antagonist would have been beneficial to the story, but if the things I touched on don’t bother you, I suspect that you will enjoy this book. I did have fun reading this, although at times it made me feel very uncomfortable. I think that fans of these types of books would enjoy it even more than I did.
