An entertaining romp about ageing middle-class Brits living in a town near Nice on the Côte d’Azur. Light, sunny and full of joie de vivre.

A light hearted read with a mystery plot set near Nice and populated with caricatures of British ex pats. Love Celia Imrie as an actor and I’ll read her books even if it didn’t give me the sun drenched Côte d’Azur vibes I was seeking.

A pleasant enough read but nothing special. It all felt a little clichéd.

A madcap adventure by a mother who is let go from her job, Theresa, who decides at the age of 60 to move from England to the Côte d'Azur. Leaving behind her daughter's demands to babysit for her granddaughters, Theresa begins to make a new life for herself, with other expats in a small town outside of Nice. Escapist fun.

3.5 by the end, though it hit a pretty high 4 in the beginning to middle.
It starts out slow -- but still interesting -- as it develops the characters, then it gets really interesting as it unfolds the mysteries surrounding the group of friend, then it turns really dark before it suddenly is drawn to a conclusion.
The dark turn isn't too dark so it won't turn people off, but it did seem out of place in the idyllic setting (which might have been the point) in what I deem to be in the mold of a cozy mystery. My biggest problem that turned it from a 4 to a 3 star rating was the ending. It just sort of quickly happened and was done, like the author said "Oh, my deadline is looming I better wrap this up!" It wasn't a bad ending -- it just felt very rushed.

The blurb made it seem as if the book might be a cozy mystery style book only set near Nice. Nope. It's a bunch of whiny, middle aged people unsure about their lives whining. Couldn't make it through the book.
