Exactly why I can’t stand anthropologists. This was a pretty big disappointment. There are way too many themes present, and some of them are more enticing than others. I really enjoyed the Dr. Gómez and Rose scenes. I thought the way her illness morphs to affect Sofia was really intelligent. Scenes with Rose were always the most dynamic. However, this is a novel about a Greek girl trying to connect the pieces of her identity, and it is not written by a Greek author, which is painfully obvious. I also took issue in the way lesbianism was represented as a metaphor here. I disliked Ingrid Bauer immensely and did not follow how
she was in love with Sofia the whole time. She just seemed like a spoiled brat who wanted everyone to herself.
I did not like how the book was written in rambling sentences. I can get behind it when the vibes are good, and I will admit to some good scenic description, but ultimately it was too all over the place and tried to accomplish too much.
