Texas, queer, Latino Jane Austen retellings scratch an itch I didn't know I had

As a queer person who grew up in small-town rural Texas (a town with a population of less than 1,000), this story really hit close to home for me. The author's personal experiences intertwined with the retelling of Northanger Abbey made for a touching and very emotional story.

I loved the story and the illustration style was fantastic! The attention to minor details such as the change in an animal's facial expression to show sympathy for a character after a rude comment really showed the skill and dedication of the illustrator.

Enjoyable, fast-paced love story. It wrapped up a bit quickly for my liking but the characters were very sweet and the mystery aspect was quite fun! Lovely coming out story

Northranger was so beautifully told and illustrated. From coming-out stories to supportive friendships and sibling relationships to a gothic mystery plot, this book has it all.

i enjoyed this gay rural storyline based on the very real experience for some folks out there. i liked and didn’t like the main characters horror fixation; generally skimmed past those sections but the way it was tied to his queer experience was impactful

This book was a hard read that handled some hard topics and at times didn’t realize it was set today which was a good reminder of what queer people in many parts of this country have to deal with. That being said some of the plot points felt a little convoluted. But still a good read.
