I found this collection of short stories quite mixed. Some had really interesting plots amd seemed very magical while others felt underdeveloped and incoherent.
Animals: 4/5, I found the plot very unique and quite intriguing
Jacob: 5/5
Plum Pie, Zombie Green, Yellow Bee, Purple Monster: 2/5
In the Dark: 2/5
Margaret and Mary and the End of the world: 5/5
Little Deaths: 2/5
The Beginning of the World in the middle of the night: 5/5
Pebbles: 5/5
Aunt Libby's Coffin Hotel: 3/5
Sea Devils: 2/5
Human Satellites: 3/5
Bright White Hearts: 2/5

Second read April 2021:
Too lazy right now to write anything, but just know that some of my ratings have changed, and also not all of my favourite stories from 2018 are still my favourites now? Though I would still say that "Plum Pie. Zombie Green. Yellow Bee. Purple Monster." is probably the best of the stories.
First read July 2018:
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories! Some of the stories were a little too short, and sometimes I didn't quite understand the worlds they were set in - which, to be fair, isn't that unusual for short stories -, but overall, I genuinely enjoyed most of these. The ideas were unique and sometimes made me want to read a whole novel about them. Especially the stories 'Animals' (someone buys a heart online for their wife), 'Little Deaths' (people are ghost hotels), and 'Aunt Libby's Coffin Hotel' intrigued me, even if the first one did make me a little uncomfortable.
My favourite stories were 'Plum Pie. Zombie Green. Yellow Bee. Purple Monster.', 'Little Deaths', 'The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night', 'Pebbles' and 'Aunt Libby's Coffin Hotel'.
I'm also gonna add a trigger warning for eating disorder for the story 'Margaret and Mary and the End of the World'. In the same story, there's also sexual assault that happens off-page, but I'm not sure how triggering it is?
