Completely different from The Parasol Universe but wow. Go listen to it. Hope there's a sequel some time and a book.

DNF ~4%
I went into this expecting it may be a DNF, and it was, but that's fully a me thing. YA/middle-grade has a hard time keeping my attention these days, and I just didn't enjoy the POV / written voice in this one.

Delightful story and need more from these characters
I read this after the Tinkered Starting trilogy, which I adored. It was great to read more about the poor crudrats and Maura was a fantastic personality. I would be very keen to read more of her adventures with Quy. Very suitable for YA.
Gail Carriger has the most delightful writing style. I love her characterisations. Lots of humour and yet so poignant.

The world-building here is fantastic! I just wish there was a direct follow-up to this book because I really want to know what happened to the main characters. There are 3 books in this universe (The Tinkered Stars universe), but they don't have anything to do with this book really.

There's not a lot of authors that I trust unconditionally. [a:Gail Carriger|2891665|Gail Carriger|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1257289860p2/2891665.jpg] happens to be one of them, which is part of the reason why I got involved in the Kickstarter fund that supported the making of this audiobook. And I'm really glad I did it. I greatly enjoyed this story and it has all of the charm that I usually expect from her writing, just in a different genre.
I'm not sure if this is going to be part of a series or not, I think it's a fine stand alone novel that's full of details but doesn't drag you down with unnecessary info dumps. I appreciate description that's concise and I actually laughed several times during this. I usually don't like full cast audios, but this one worked. All and all, I very much enjoyed it.
