A quick listen for a road trip. It’s entertaining, part of an ongoing series, which is hugely popular, I believe… who am I to argue.

This is the first time I have come across DS George Cross and he has become my favourite detective.
Tim Sullivan has written the character of the neurodivergent detective so well that you can't help but like him.
Cross and his partner, DS Jose Ottley, are called to investigate the death of Peggy Frampton, an ex-local councillor, activist and agony aunt to her many followers. The death seems straightforward and looks like a burglary gone wrong.
However, Cross is having none of it and quickly decides that a murder has been committed.
Cross is not to everyone's taste - he speaks his mind, does his own thing and regularly walks away in the middle of a conversation. Josie tries to educate him on the subject of social niceties - sometimes successfully but other times, Cross just doesn't get it and can't understand why people are so easily upset.
However, once he has his mind set on a course of action, he doesn't give up. Not everyone agrees with his methods but, when you get the results, the odd social faux pas can be forgiven.
Definitely going to look for other titles in the series.

oh my god the ending........

SpoilerGeorge nodded as he took this in, then walked to the door. He stopped for a moment as he remembered something, then turned, looked at his father. ‘I’m so sorry for your loss,’ he said, and left.

i love how it links so perfectly to the earlier books in the series, with ottey telling cross he needs to say that to the family members of the victims. what a gutwrenching few sentences.

Just finished up "The Politician" by Tim Sullivan, the fourth book in the DS Cross series. It's a solid read—loving the smooth flow of each story, the awesome characters, and the constant surprises. If you're into whodunnits and police dramas, definitely give it a go.

Loved this as I have the previous books in this series. George Cross is such a quirky character and a perfect fit for a policeman, although I don't think his colleagues would necessarily agree. With his Asperger's he has such an eye for detail, that he doesn't rest until all the evidence is in. When a former Lord Mayor of Bristol is murdered, George is not so sure it was a burglary gone wrong, and so his search for the truth begins. A wonderful series
