While all of us know Amelia Earhart as a pioneering woman pilot, most of us haven't even heard about her contemporary, Ruth Nichols, who at one time not only held the record for speed, distance and altitude for women aviators, but also beat Charles Lindberg's speed record for flying cross country.
In this short story, the author talks about Earhart and Nicolas surmounted the rivalry created by the public and fostered a friendship based on being pioneers together. A queer love between the two aviators is hinted at, though not explicitly stated.
Kudos to the writer for speaking about contemporary issues faced by women (particularly women in a professional setting) by weaving it onto enjoyable historical fiction.

I loved the connection that these characters had and their emotional journey. The author does a great job creating the scene, characters, and relationships.

Blaze Series, short story #1
Once again, Marie Benedict draws her readers into the life of an amazing, unconventional woman - Amelia Earhart. Written from the perspective of a fellow female pilot, Ruth Nichols, you see the private side of Earhart, her devotion to female aviators, and her relationship with her dear friend Ruth.
