The 4 stars are mainly for story and Jae Lee’s art. Brent Booth’s art was super inconsistent. Some of the faces were ridiculous. I’m not going to let it ruin the book though.
The story is getting impacted by the randomness of the art, I can see how this book struggled. My hope is that it gets cleaned up in later volumes.

The Game Over section was okay, but this Huntress/Power Girl duo is not interesting.

Aha! Now I see where volume 1 was going. And I finally get it. I wish I had read them closer together - or even, as they come out, ha! - to get the flow better. When I see the multiple universe thing here, it seems to make sense. I was shocked when it all happened towards the end of this volume.
At the beginning, though, you've got a couple of side stories that set the tone, and they both involve games. The first one is an elaborate MMO set up to control our heroes...it highlights the personality differences really well. The second is war world, which seemed a little rushed, but there was Red Hood so I was ok with it.
And Huntress has been my favorite female hero, so I am happy to see her. Her backstory, though, was what had made her my favorite, so I'm not sure how I'll feel about her as Helena Wayne.
The art was so original as to be distracting, but it worked for me...at the end only, when it was consistent. Otherwise I was jarred in and out. Maybe this wouldn't have been the case if I was reading it as weeklies? Very angular and stylized. The layout is gorgeous and innovative. I've never seen any comic laid out like this before...it was spectacular.

First two issues (where Mongul uses harnesses the rage of gamers to destroy the world) is the sort of cringe-inducing shit that makes me embarrassed to say I read comics.
Hope the rest of the book is better; the artwork definitely is.
Nope, it doesn't get better. The next villain is the son of Mongul, out to avenge his death. There are better graphic novels on which to spend your time. Pass.
But I really like the artwork and the stunning use of colors.
First book of the year to be abandoned. Skimmed the rest of the book; looks stunning, but little hope the story or dialogue will get better, although Powergirl's act of self-sacrifice might have some redeeming value--the writers probably wrung a story out of that (although judging from their work so far, I may be giving them too much credit).

I was fortunate enough to be granted a review copy of this from DC Comics through Netgalley. I have enjoyed this series and wished it was a little better at the same time. The thing I really like about this series is the back and forth between Batman and Superman, but not the dialog but the internal thoughts of these characters. Batman will think something like Clark is a Boy Scout, and then the next text box is Superman thinking something like "I'm sure Bruce thinks I'm a Boy Scout". This non verbal back and forth shows just how close the friendship between these characters is.
The one thing I am not a big fan of is the cross over between our universe and the Earth 2 universe. I get confused as to which Batman I'm reading about, the younger one who has little experience or the older one that has this family and is not what Batman is about at all. The story in this was pretty interesting. It starts out with Mogul and his son which run through the whole book. The first part of this has a video game designer with some special technology creates a game that can control Batman like he is an action figure. Later in the book we get a pretty cool battle royal on another planet.
I liked the story and it has its moments where it falls a little flat. Overall it is a pretty good story. The artwork is also really good in this book. At the very beginning there is this great page that is half Batman and half Superman but it is split right down the middle Making the two one character.
I did enjoy this book and look forward to vol 3 when ever it is released. These have been great books so far and I love the combination of two of my favorite superheroes. Batman is of course my favorite but I have like Superman for a long time also. I actually really wondering where this story is going to take us in future books after finishing this one.
I am going to give this 4 out of 5 stars. This kept my attention and I looked forward to picking it up again every time I had to put it down. As always I am grateful for the opportunity to review this book from DC Comics. I may not get picked to review there books as often as I would like but when I do they usually are the best titles that will be coming out.

I kinda messed this one up and read some of it with the first volume. But I liked everything I read and I LOVE the art - Jae Lee has become one of my favorite comic artists. I kinda feel like the last person Batman would want to team up with would be Superman, but he does find him useful sometimes so he just goes with it.

This was not for me. The first half of the book is designed to be read sideways which is really awkward for a hardcover. Also, because they’re working with so little space, some comics writers will sacrifice exposition and plot points that would be helpful to a reader. For me, it just makes the experience less pleasant.

This volume follows two different (yet sort of connected) story arcs. The first story was cheesy and over-the-top, reminiscent of the early 90s comic stories. A new artist was used for this story, and the art was overdone and non-cohesive with the art style we've seen thus far.
The second story was much better, following Earth-2 Huntress and Powergirl's meeting with Batman and Superman. The story is more enoyable if you've been keeping up with the World's Finest storyline, but works just fine on it's own.
Overall the writing in this series seems inconsistent, and the use of numerous artists with vastly different styles can be distracting and confusing. However, I'm interested enough in the Batman/Superman relationship to keep reading for atleast one more volume.

Really enjoyed this. The stories were mostly standalone so I could follow them which was a bonus. Even more surprising was that I enjoyed the mish-mash of art styles. The weird, slightly off kilter art work was just enough to provide a break but not overwhelm the story.
The especially enjoyed the video game story - it was better plotting than BvS. The dues ex machina about how Batman survived was stupid but I still loved it. Even the whole gamers are violent I got over only because I loved Superman little trick. Plus the ending got me...
The last story with power girl and huntress was the weakest in terms of plot but the banter between Batman and huntress was worth it. Supes was a little bit of a Boy Scout but even that worked for me. Guess I was in a good mood or something clicked in these stories for me.

The story was a neat enough idea, though it felt somewhat aimed at a younger audience than I prefer. It was quite quick to dive in and quick to wrap up without getting into the nitty gritty (which is what I’ve so loved about so many of the Batman comics I had read prior to this)
The art in this one was okay though yet again I felt the drawings of peoples faces is still putting me off just a tad for some reason
I have given up on this series after this honestly, it had promise but I just didn’t vibe lol
Did love that Superman was willing to risk the whole world just to save Batman’s life, tho.
