Loved it. Great Big Sea is tied with Barenaked Ladies as my favourite band/music group, so this was a fun book to read and learn about the life of Alan Doyle and everything that led up to the birth of Great Big Sea.

I listened to the audiobook and it was read by the author, so offers a little more flair when he's talking about traditional Newfoundland with his Newfounldland accent.

What a lovely and picturesque book full of life so specific and yet also universal.

Would be SO much better as an audiobook. Alan Doyle is SO personable and a wonderful storyteller, and while I could sometimes hear him in my mind as I read, this book would be perfect as an audiobook. Would still recommend.

Pretty good book, mostly about him growing up in newfoundland, don't read if your looking for a book about the band and forming it, it ends at the forming of the band basically. he has a way of writing that you feel like you are right there with him in Nfld.

Great history lesson without needing any background info on Newfoundland or the band. Stories varied from gross (the fishhook) to hilarious (the broken piano).

LOVE Alan Doyle’s books. I want to go back to Newfoundland and meet all these people. Funny guy, awesome stories. Reminds me of the people I grew up with in small town on the prairies.
