4 Hot A** Guy CROWNS

Anything but Love is an enjoyable enemies to lovers story.

The characters of the Wingmen series are always enjoyable. Their little town creates these uniquely odd people who are endearing. Their eccentricities make the reader love them. Anything but Love adds another two characters to the brood. First, the reader meets Erik Kelso as he is vacationing with his brother in Mexico, where he first meets Cari. Their first encounter sets up their enemy status. Looking to relieve some stress and enjoy their final days, the brothers decide to go out on the water, where Erik participates in an activity that immortalizes him on social media. His 15 minutes of fame is what brings Cari back into his life.

I like Erik as a character. He has an interesting mix of cocky and nerdy. He exudes arrogance but often misses the mark. The contradiction makes him an intriguing character. I also like that ramblings of this coffee lover. His internal dialogue is humorous and had me laughing. Cari, the heroine of the story, is another likable character. She returns to Erik’s town to attempt to make right what has happened. The town and his friends fall in love with her. Although these characters are wonderful, the chemistry missed the mark for me. I just didn’t feel it between them. This doesn’t mean that there isn’t a spark or that the chemistry isn’t there, some people might feel it, I, personally, just didn’t connect with the two of them as a couple.

I did enjoy their story. The plot is engaging, and their story is written well. The journey Daisy Prescott takes the reader on is fun and sweet. I really love the Gomez posts and what Cari and Erik ultimately did with his social media fame.

Overall, this story is a good read, but it could be a phenomenal read for you. The writing is good, the characters are enjoyable, and the reader will fall in love with the cast of secondary characters. I personally just did not connect with the characters as a couple, but every reader is different. If you love a small town romantic comedy, Daisy Prescott’s writing alone would warrant giving Anything but Love a try.

Welcome to Daisypalooza! In the month of July, Daisy Prescott is releasing TWO full-length, stand-alone novels and a short story. It’s obviously my birthday month, but this year = presents for everyone!

Anything But Love is the latest installment in the Wingmen series set on Whidbey Island. In Anything But Love, we find Erik Kelso exposed by a viral photo that has turned his life upside down. He’s fresh meat for every cougar on the Island (and beyond.) The open oglings, by a variety of the islands older ladies, are some of the book’s most deliciously raucous scenes! Enter Cari Caldwell, Erik’s new nemesis. Her role in his new found fame has Erik frustrated in every possible way.

What ensues is an absolutely fantastic, enemies-to-friends Rom Com! Anything But Love is LOL-funny! Not just LOL, but seriously Laugh Out Loud through every chapter! My highlighter got a workout highlighting all of the LOL scenes. It felt like there was something hilarious on every page.

Anything But Love is charming, sweet, heart-warming, clever and playful. The characters are entertaining and relatable. This is another trip to Whidbey that makes you want to pick up and move to Washington. There are some great cameo appearances by John Day and Tom Donnely (Diane and Hailey too!) If you haven’t read the other Wingmen books; you’ll love these characters and then want to read their books asap!

This book made me giddy and oh so happy! I guarantee it will put a smile on the face of every rom-com lover. It’s a definite one-click!

BFF Book Blog also uses a set of icon ratings. This book received additional ratings for: Funny, Character Development, Sweet, World Creation, Butterflies, Romance and Steamy. This book is written from a Male POV, which is one of Daisy’s specialties! And, an advance copy was received in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series but Anything But Love may turn out to be my least favorite in this series, Erik is to blame because I had a hard time liking him.  I'm not sure why Cari liked him, he wasn't very nice to her.  They had the sex and then poof...he goes on his merry way and then he'd come back around. *Shrugs* I just didn't care for him all that much.  This is highly unusual for me and Ms. Prescott's male characters.  But hey, it happens.

I really liked some of the new characters that Ms. Prescott introduced and I'm hopeful that these guys are getting their own books.  Erik's brother, Carter, Dan the pizza guy, and Jonah, Erik's partner are all guys that I want to read books about. :)

I still laughed out loud and overall I enjoyed Anything But Love.

We’ve all dreamed about being famous at some point in our lives right? Erik Kelso did too, but he wanted to be famous for his beans…his coffee beans. But because of a mishap on a trip to Cabo he’s become famous for something else. What? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Caribou is partially responsible for his new fame but she didn’t stay a part of his vacation. She followed him home.

This book is probably one of the funniest I’ve read all year. My cheeks were hurting from grinning and giggling so much. I think we’ve all known an Erik Kelso before. You know the cocky good looking guy that’s amazing to be friends with because watching him in action is hilarious but you’d never date him? That’s Erik. Caribou is his feisty other half who wants nothing to do with him at first. She doesn’t fall for his charm and the banter between them is fabulous.

And the shenanigans, oh my, the shenanigans. There are shenanigans from Erik, shenanigans from social media, shenanigans from cougar women, just shenanigans everywhere and they are fun! The supporting characters in the novel were amazing. They help immerse you within the book making you feel as though you’re on the island with everyone.

It isn’t all fun and games though. It does hit some deep stuff, like an alcoholic father and how fifteen minutes of fame isn’t all fun and games. I can’t wait to read the next installment of the Wingman series; I’m hoping its Dan. He seems to have a story just waiting to be told.

Anything But Love is the third standalone story in the Wingmen series by Daisy Prescott. You do not need to read these in order to understand them, but they are interconnected. I have read and enjoyed Daisy's books in the past, so I was really excited for Anything But Love. While there were things I liked here, overall this one was just okay for me.

Erik Kelso has worked hard to start his coffee company in Whidbey, so he heads to Cabo with his brother Carter for a weekend filled with sun and girls. But when he meets Caribou Caldwell, things get off on the wrong foot and Erik finds himself torn between thinking she is his worst nightmare but also his fantasy come to life. When Erik finds himself suddenly the center of attention, things change once again between him and Cari. Is there more to their connection, and what happens when Erik is no longer just a small town guy but the man that everyone wants?

I liked Erik and Cari, but my biggest issue was that I just couldn't relate to them. I found myself struggling to care about them, and I just wasn't really feeling anything between them. Don't get me wrong there was attraction and I could tell that they liked one another when they weren't bickering, but I just didn't ever really feel their connection. They had some sexy moments and I did enjoy their banter, but it wasn't enough for me to ever be completely sold that these two were falling in love with one another.

I also have to say that for the first third to half of the book I had a tough time even getting into the story. It was slow and there was a ton of set-up with not a lot happening. Things were very dry, and it was all I did this and I did that and then I did this. It just wasn't what I was used to from Daisy's books and it didn't have that same light, humorous yet sexy feel her stories typically do. There was nothing to hold my attention or captivate me as there usually is with her stories. So while I did things about this book, this wasn't my favorite of hers. While it wasn't a bad book, it did feel forced at times coming off as disjointed and without the effortless flow I am used to with her books. I know I will read more from Daisy in the future, but for me Erik and Cari's story was just okay.

I just couldn't resist another Wingmen novel and Daisy Prescott had me laughing out loud right from the beginning.

When an impulsive act of fun during a holiday with his brother Carter follows them home to the locally nicknamed 'Phallus Palace', it triggers a chain of events that change Erik's life. He becomes an overnight internet sensation when a photo of his butt appears on Instagram, taken during his skinny dip dive in Mexico. The photo is traced back to the only woman who caught his eye during the fateful holiday. The purple-tipped hellcat…!

Photographer, 'Cari' Caribou Caldwell meets Erik Kelso in a nightclub in Cabo, Her jealous 'fiancé' misinterprets their dancing together, so he and Erik end up exchanging blows. The result leads to them both having to bribe local police officers when their fight ends up in the street. Cari doesn't expect to see than man who broke her boyfriend Damien's nose again, but a few clicks of her camera plus a deceitful act leads her to the man she couldn't resist photographing.

Playful banter between Erik and Cari is hilarious as insults and sarcastic responses bounce between the two of them. They give in to their lustful attraction for each other, but then something will trigger a seed of doubt, sending them both in the opposite direction. They prefer to hide, rather than share personal information, believing it's the right thing to do...until they realise they can't live without each other.

The dialogue in this novel is highly entertaining, and it's not just restricted to the protagonists. Verbal ping-pong with hilarious and witty retort bounces off most pages. I love Daisy Prescott's writing as much as I adore the Whidbey Island setting. It's fun catching up on the antics of other residents who have appeared in previous books too.

Anything But Love is a standalone novel. I recommend reading about Tom 'Tom Cat' Donnely and John Day in their novels too. All are perfect Summer escapism.

I really wanted to like this more but the characters just seemed flat compared to the first two. I have hopes for the next though and I'll definitely keep reading the series.

With Daisy’s male POV flair, ANYTHING BUT LOVE is an enjoyable love story with the perfect amount of comedy mixed in. Her reads are always light, fun, and with the right amount of romance to spice it up. Our hero, Erik, is single and truly wants to keep it that way. He has a dry, sarcastic nature to him that leads to the novel being very cheeky and lively. What happens in Cabo certainly doesn’t stay there, and follows him all the way back to Whidbey Island. A guy who likes to live in peace, brewing coffee, certainly becomes quite popular with the women folk. And that’s where Cari comes in. Which in turn brings in the I-hate-you-but-I-find-you-very-attractive portion of the novel. I loved their banter, their back and forths, and the general passion flowing between them (lust and hate). Cari is a very strong-minded female character and she really complements Erik.

ANYTHING BUT LOVE is a great beach read. It has very little angst and a lot of fun. While the story started off slow and the general lead-up to the relationship took longer than I would have liked, it was still very fun. I loved the dynamic between Erik and every person in his life; how he was very centered but had a lightness to him. And I loved the way Cari affected him. It’s the type of story that anyone will enjoy.

Great book to start the year! It was a funny and light read. I love Daisy's writing and can always feel like I'm friends with those characters. If you like rom-com, I really recommend her books.
