This new installment in the Narwhal and Jelly series is packed with funny dialogue and activity, off-the-wall silliness, and seamlessly interwoven educational content. In this story, which is partly a tribute to a substitute teacher who inspired the author when he was a child, Narwhal takes on the challenge of substitute-teaching a school of small fish.
The fish are all in sync with each other, and speak together in various synonyms of the same word. The vocabulary alone makes this book educational, and I knew that I was going to give this five stars when I saw the word "indubitably." The fish also learn from Narwhal, gaining new scientific information and mathematical understanding. What Narwhal teaches fits perfectly within the book, instead of feeling like an interruption, and the character interactions are lots of fun.
Other reviewers comment that this book seemed somewhat chaotic to them, but it fits with a young reader's interest and attention span, while also providing new information and challenging words that are very clear in context. This is a great book for fans of the series, kids who are interested in animal-related graphic novels, and kids who like to play school.
I received a temporary digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received this and as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Tundra Books for giving me access.
I just love these Narwhal and Jelly books and so do my kids. They are always filled with fun and waffles. I loved how in this one, there were lots of synonyms for a word to help the reader to understand the many responses one could have that mean the same thing.
Definitely something I recommend for young readers or family reading time. Can't wait to see what adventures Narwhal and Jelly have next.

Narwhal and Jelly decide to volunteer as substitute teachers for a day. Of course, neither one of them are trained to teach, so they have to get creative - using waffles to teach math, a scavenger hunt, and tag. This is yet another great Narwhal and Jelly book with lots of humor and puns, and will make any kid see the fun in learning!
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

Narwhal and Jelly are back for another fantastic adventure in Narwhal's School of Awesomeness. This is the sixth novel in the collection, and I sincerely cannot recommend this series enough.
Written and illustrated by Ben Clanton, Narwhal's School of Awesomeness sends Narwhal and Jelly off on a new adventure – the adventure of teaching. No, really! They're becoming substitute teachers, and it is every bit as adorable and hilarious as you might imagine.
While this whole series has always been marketed towards kids (leaving room for adults to enjoy it, of course), I feel like Narwhal's School of Awesomeness is especially relevant for young readers. After all, the focus is something they can very much identify with – school! Yet this school is arguably more entertaining than the land counterpart, as lessons revolve around things such as wafflematics, scavenger hunts, and more.
The thing I love the most about this series is how joyful the characters are. They are always genuinely happy to see one another. It's contagious and will leave any reader feeling happier just for having picked up their book.
Thanks to Tundra Books and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
