Another beautifully written short by M. L. Rio, I've never rated anything she has written as less than 5 ⭐ It's quirky and unique, super quick to read and an interesting concept drawing on her personal experience of severe insomnia. Equal mix between Dark Academia, mystery and science.

"How long did it take to fill a shallow grave?"

One day, I will stop myself from reading a mushroom horror book... Or create a separate shelf for mushroom horrors. Today is not the day for either of those things.

"Nothing like a little light asphyxiation to calm a body down."

I loved this. I loved the Scooby Doo feel to the mystery, & to the characters. I loved how each of the characters felt fully fleshed out in such a short period of time, & how the story flowed to each POV.

"Sorry, I must have missed how we landed on murder."

As someone with insomnia, I've frequently found myself within other communities of insomniacs since college - in the computer labs, in the laundry room, online; & it quickly turns into routine when it's always the same people doing the same things, so I found the Anchorites to be natural as a group during the late hours.

"Straight men are so stupid. Women aren't complicated. If you don't know how to get to where you want to be with her, just fucking ask for directions."

Representation: wlw relationship

"She hated liking people."
