Encountered this book in a graduate class on nursing education. If you need inspiration in teaching, this is one book that can re-energize you! Palmer details his subject-centered teaching philosophy and how it changed the way he teaches college.

An absolutely stunning book. Calling, vocational, almost spiritual. Highly recommend not only for teachers, but for anyone in any kind of leadership/organizational/service work.

A very insightful book I would all teachers and school administrators would read. There so many concepts presented that I’ll need to reread over time. I was fortunate to have read it twice: once solo and once with my brother.

I highly recommend this book.

A wonderful book! He clearly and articulately states what those of us who love to teach must continually strive to bring to the classroom. I can only imagine that students come away from his classes with a strong desire to learn more about whatever topic he happened to cover that day.

This book was 87% touchy feely hippy, but sometimes I need a dose of that to recharge. Overall, I think I was uplifted by the fact that someone was telling me that teaching is often scary and that good teaching comes from who I am at my very core and NOT the amounts of Cornell Notes I am having my students take on any given day.

A great read for teachers that delves into the essence of the profession and process of learning. Gave me a lot to think about.

Parker Palmer is one of my heroes! If you're down and out as a teacher, read this book. Twice.
