Holly Smale did it again! American readers are able to see why this is such a beloved favorite in the UK. "Model Misfit" is just as funny as "Geek Girl" and will have readers giggling or busting with laughter for much of the book. While there is a moment where the situation feels contrived or forced, the story bounces back nicely. Tons of fun and fast paced, "Model Misfit" is a must read sequel!

Harriet is one of my favourite YA protagonists - her voice is so strong, and it's not very often you have a character who makes you feel, laugh AND LEARN!! I love all the 'geeky' facts in this and its prequel, [b:Geek Girl|13621089|Geek Girl (Geek Girl, #1)|Holly Smale|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1350080057s/13621089.jpg|19224529], and kept stopping to read them aloud to my trying-to-sleep fiance.

I must admit thought that [b:Geek Girl|13621089|Geek Girl (Geek Girl, #1)|Holly Smale|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1350080057s/13621089.jpg|19224529] worked well as a standalone and was nervous that [b:Model Misfit|18065780|Model Misfit (Geek Girl #2)|Holly Smale|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1375444637s/18065780.jpg|25357318] just wasn't going to work, but I needn't have worried. It's the perfect ending to the stories of Harriet et al - in fact, it's a wonderful ending.

I absolutely loved all the Japanese culture. Kawaiiiiii!! Chotto matte! I wish Rin was my friend - we've practically got the same name...

I loved [b:Geek Girl|13621089|Geek Girl (Geek Girl, #1)|Holly Smale|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1350080057s/13621089.jpg|19224529] and recommended it to anyone who wanted a light-hearted (but unexpectedly deep) British YA comedy. But I think I enjoyed [b:Model Misfit|18065780|Model Misfit (Geek Girl #2)|Holly Smale|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1375444637s/18065780.jpg|25357318] even more! So the answer? Read both!

3.5 stars, but rounding it up! Still as enjoyable as the first one, but better.
Enything that's in Tokyo gets a plus point (Japan just generally tends to immediately catch my attention). The plot was also a little more... complicated in a way? A lot more was going on and I liked that, it grew from being geek girl is suddenly a super model theme.
I also really liked that Harriet is SUCH a teenager (just as she is supposed to be). I loved the moments when she went full blown teenager on everybody (I had vivid flashback to the times when I was shouting that I hated everybody). But most of all I appreciated that Smale stayed true to her characters - she didn't even try to make Harriet into a supermodel that just kicks ass. She kept her a clumsy, geeky girl that REALLY doesn't know when or what to say.
I hope the next one's even better.

This book made me feel very happy every time I read it as it’s so relatable and Harriet’s character is so comforting
