Not my usual read but was totally hooked in by the book and couldn’t put it down.

I felt as though the child in the book did not match the age... I found myself not excited to carry on

I received a copy of this book for an honest review from NetGalley.
This book is amazing, I loved every single page from the first to last.
This book has everything you could wish for. Suspense, secrets, lies, heartache, twists & turns.
Every time I thought I knew what was coming the story changed track.
I loved how it jumped from past to present day. It was wonderfully written with beautiful descriptions really making me believe the authors storytelling. I could picture myself out there in the woods in the dark of night.

I really wanted to like this book.
The first two-thirds were promising, but the story really starts to fall apart in the climb to the climax.
A rather unsatisfying climax at that.
There were several lazy red herrings, each one promising to be a better story than the one that ended up being used.
The overall quality of the writing was decent, but it could have used some refining.
I'm glad I read this in a single sitting because I'm not confident that I would've returned to it again if I'd put it down.

Lisa has fled her husband with her son Joe, but what secrets does her friends house hold? What really happened to Grace in the past and what part does Isobel play?
I loved the beginning of this book and it really hooked me in. However I was a little disappointed in the ending and felt the explanation of Grace's story was weak.

4 Stars from me
The story alternates between present day and a few years ago - present day is Lisa and her little boy who are on the run from her controlling partner - and the older story is from the previous occupants of the house on the lake.
I have to admit I was peeved when the first 'older' chapter appeared as I hadn't realised it was that style of story and I was really into the present day... However, I very soon become utterly drawn in to both timelines and can honestly say I enjoyed them equally.
The house was so well described - it sounded AWFUL! I wouldn't have stayed there for 5 minutes, fair play to Lisa for putting up with it.
The two storylines run alongside each other very well and as you would expect there comes a points where the two cross - some interesting little sidelines and a few unexpected moments, overall a good solid page turner.
