An incredible read, "Black Sun" surpassed any expectations I had for it.
Roanhorse brought to life a beautifully, tragic tale, driven by memorable characters and vivid and compelling storytelling. It's been a long time since I've found myself drawn to every character and attached to each journey.

I loved every single moment.

I loved this book. Couldn't put it down from the moment I opened it, and by the time I hit the ending I was practically yelling "Wait, no, that can't be it!"

The worldbuilding here is so rich, so colorful. I loved being allowed to immerse myself in it and spend time with these characters. I love the politics, power, and corruption they're being forced to contend with, and how all of it interacts. I think all of these characters could be friends if none of that was in the way. But it's so complicated because of everything that has happened in the past, and as new events unfold the consequences only make things more complicated. I love that.

It's a breezy read that has a lot to offer. Shoutout to my boy Serapio.

This is a really neat fantasy book. The world building was fantastic. I found it slow to start, but once I was in, I was in.

This. Was. Fantastic.
An extremely well developed, gripping world of politics and religion, travel and isolation, belief and faith, and what people are willing to go through to being what they believe will be a better world. (Or vengeance.) Set in a fantasy world inspired by the Pre-Columbian Americas, the people and fictional cultures represented are riveting. My favorite character (unsurprisingly) is the sailor from a matriarchal society on the fringes of their world. Other people react to her as if she is somewhere between a walking superstition and a bedtime story, a Siren more at home on the water than anywhere else.
The narrative can sometimes be confusing, with changes in narrative perspective and time period, all leading us toward the big solar eclipse (convergence). As long as I paid attention to the labels at the beginning of each chapter, I didn't get lost for too long, and eventually got into the rhythm.
I can't wait for the next book in what will be a trilogy.
